This is a common question amongst new clients and often debated about amongst enthusiasts. As a pilates practitioner, I can tell you that this is a myth. It has been my experience that most people find themselves a bit tight and prone to slouching which impacts everything from overall comfort and posture to how “tall” we look to the outside world.
While it might feel that you are longer and leaner as a result of Pilates, no exercise can lengthen your bones, which means you’re likely just returning to your original height as a result of stretching your muscles and vertebra.
What Pilates can do for you is give you an overall leaner appearance by helping to lengthen bulky muscles, pulling the spine up and thus helping to flatten abs, tighten and tone.
What do you think? Have you noticed that you “felt” taller post practice?
